Very fine example, probably subjected to a very early cleaning. Beautiful iridescent and matte cabinet patina.

Coin of exceptional rarity. This is the only example recorded to date for this mint and year.

Rarity index: R5 in the Gadoury Blanc – Monnaies Royales.

Estimated mintage: only 1,691 examples struck.

According to Arnaud Clairand, this coin is documented in the archives and is noted as not recorded in Monnaies royales françaises et de la Révolution (1610–1794). The delivery register has not been preserved; however, the weight of gold coined at Limoges in 1761 is known. With 56 marcs, 2 ounces, 21 deniers and 7 grains coined, the total production can be estimated at 1,691 Louis d’or.
