Pedigree :
Salvaged from the H..M.S. Association (sunk in 1707 off the isles of Scilly, England).
The H.M.S. Association was a British warship that met its demise in the Scilly naval disaster of October 1707. Upon returning from the Mediterranean after its participation in the Toulon campaign, amidst the war of the Spanish Succession, severe weather sunk 4 out of the 21-ship Royal Navy fleet off the Isles of Scilly. This claimed the lives of approximately 1,400-2,000 sailors, making this incident one of the worst maritime disasters in British naval history. Salvaging began in the 1960’s, recovering a plethora of artifacts and over 2,000 gold and silver coins. The quantity of salvaged historical artifacts led to the passing of government legislation, specifically the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973, to preserve British historical wrecks as a part of maritime heritage.
