Readers will discover sketches, flan trials, and numerous control or presentation strikes—rare and often little-known elements that reflect the meticulous work carried out by the engravers and artisans of the Monnaie de Paris.

Throughout its 640 richly illustrated full-color pages, the book provides a comprehensive listing of essais and piedforts struck between 1870 and 2001. Many trial strikes are also described and valued according to four levels of preservation. A dedicated chapter at the end of the book focuses on presentation cases.
