This exceptional mint error resulted from a mechanical incident during striking with the screw press. This previously struck coin accidentally remained stuck in the press, subsequently causing an incuse impression on the following coin.

This type of minting error, particularly spectacular and highly sought after, remains extremely rare on 18th-century French royal issues.
