    This is to certify this artifact was recovered off the wreck of the British East Indiaman Joanna which sank on June 1682. She was en route so Surat in the east and was wrecked on the southern most tip of Africa, cape Agulhas with the loss of twenty four lives. In November, 1982, the wreck site was relocated. Sealit, an amateur diving syndicate, the South African cultural History Museum and the National Monuments Council worked closely together on the excavation of the wreck.
